The moment I arrived at this Captain Whidbey wedding, I knew immediately I wanted to return. While we discussed her own wedding day, Chandler explained she had admired the inn for a while. After seeing photos of other weddings, it was finally time for hers and Cole’s nuptials at this scenic location. Once you see it for yourself, it’s understandable why they chose it! Similarly, I can’t wait to photograph couples here again and again!
Located in Coupeville, Captain Whidbey Inn is nestled on 6 acres overlooking Penn Cove. This property somehow blends the natural beauty of the area and modernity in a way that is difficult to replicate. Built in 1907, the historic building itself offers 30 rooms on site. The views of the property are especially incredible. The diverse scenery includes lush forests, waterfront views, and mountains, making it a beautiful option no matter the season. Additionally, they offer multiple indoor and outdoor event spaces, an on-site restaurant. Couples also have the option to buy out the property for up to 125 guests. With all it has to offer, it’s clear why it’s a premier wedding venue for PNW couples.
Chandler and Cole’s coastal wedding day on Whidbey Island was full of emotional, heartfelt moments. They chose to do things their own way when it came to first looks and it was such a beautiful moment to witness. After his father passed away, Cole became a father figure to his younger siblings. Because of this, they opted to do a first look with his mom. It had the feel of a ‘thank you’ and an ‘I love you’ combined– such a sentimental start to the day. Their ceremony was elegant and thoughtful. They followed it with a reception full of memorable speeches from their closest friends and family.
Chandler’s twin sister’s MOH speech about being in the womb for the last minute together will forever be one of the most hilarious speeches I’ve ever heard! Afterwards, they danced, celebrated, and feasted on an oyster bar– a very coastal touch. The waterfront views, soft color palette, and classic elegance of their wedding created a very East Coast vibe (despite being in the PNW & attended by guests from San Francisco) in the best way! The versatility of Captain Whidbey Inn as the venue without a doubt contributed to the feel!
Despite the venue being located on Whidbey Island, the ferry ride isn’t required. That said, if you or your guests do opt to use it, educate yourself (and them) on the ferry times and reservations. Speaking of reservations, summer is the busiest season for the inn. If a summer wedding is your dream, don’t wait until the last minute if additional lodging is needed! When it comes time for the ceremony, be sure to block off parking as well because it is viewable. Lastly, despite the size of the property, even weddings of 100+ guests feel intimate so you’re able to get the views and the guest list. It’s the kind of place where you don’t have to choose between a breathtaking backdrop and a meaningful, close-knit celebration. You can really have both and this venue is well worth the investment.
