Sometimes the creative world has a funny way of bringing people together. I had been following Lena’s work as a film critic on Patreon for a while, so when she reached out about photographing her and Nadine’s Westchester County wedding, I was thrilled. There’s something really special about connecting with fellow artists, and it was such an honor to collaborate on something as meaningful as their wedding day.
Lena and Nadine are thoughtful, funny, and intentional people. From the beginning, they prioritized photography as a central part of their celebration. When couples care deeply about capturing how their wedding feels, the result is always more authentic and true to who they are. I had such a wonderful time documenting both their engagement session and wedding day. It was a joy from start to finish.
Lena & Nadines’ wedding took place at Sal J. Prezioso Mountain Lakes Park in North Salem, New York. This hidden gem includes beautiful weaving trails, lake views, and an intimate, homey feel. It’s the kind of location that makes you want to unplug, stay a while, and be fully present with your people. The on-site lodging makes getting ready a breeze and it allows for couples to make the most of their time with guests. The dining hall comfortably accommodates up to 100 guests and creates such a warm and inviting atmosphere for receptions. Best of all, there are multiple scenic areas perfect for ceremonies & portraits for couples like Lena & Nadine who prioritized the beauty of nature during their big day.
But be warned: it’s remote. You’ll want to double-check your packing list before heading out, because last minute store runs aren’t exactly an option. A few more things to know: parking near the ceremony site is limited, and it’s not particularly accessible for guests with mobility challenges. If you’re planning something similar, carpooling is essential, and accessibility should definitely be considered.
Lena and Nadine told me that, even from the very beginning, they agreed that, “…the whole point of a wedding is sharing your love with all of the people you love.” They did a phenomenal job of planning their day around that sentiment and included many of their loved ones in one way or another. Lena’s dad officiated the ceremony and her older brother composed an original piece for the processional. They included personal readings and prayers, and their dogs, Knives and Young Neil, acted as flower girl and ring bearer. The love, intention, and care were all palpable.
This wedding was personal through and through. Their save-the-dates (that they designed themselves, mid you) featured their dogs. Their custom Bindle and Keep suits reflected their personalities perfectly. Nadine’s mom made the wedding pie while Lena’s older brother ran the playlist at the reception. And the signature drinks were named after Knives and Neil (I’m still dreaming of the maple cardamom old fashioned).
Reception tables were covered in sage green linens, vintage glassware and plates, soft candlelight, and fresh wildflowers. The vibe was warm, cozy, and full of love. The best part, however, was watching them absolutely light up the dance floor with their friends. They belted out songs, laughed, and were thoroughly present for every moment. When I asked what they hoped to remember about their wedding day 50 years from now, they said: “Joy, togetherness, community, comfort, all the beauty of nature and love.”
I think we nailed it.
