Some weddings just feel different. Sam and Luke’s day at the historic Tokeland Hotel wasn’t about following rules or keeping up with trends. Instead, they created a close-knit celebration true to who they are. Intimate, intentional, and a little bit magical, this day was about joy & making space for the people who matter most. It was one of those weddings that reminds you what it’s all really about. I felt so lucky to document every laugh, tear, and handmade touch.
The Tokeland Hotel (the oldest hotel in the state) is tucked away on the Washington coast and makes for the dreamiest, offbeat wedding location. This 135-year-old Washington state wedding venue comes complete with colorful landscaping, unforgettable food, and a staff that feels like family. (Note the photo of the chef laughing with Sam!) From the garden paths to the artful indoor spaces, every corner of this venue tells a story. Art deco–style hexagonal tiles line the floors, string lights dance over the patio, and the whole property feels like a breath of fresh air. The whimsical decor is a personal favorite, and when you combine it with the views, it’s no wonder Sam and Luke chose Tokeland Hotel for their wedding!
From beginning to end, Sam and Luke’s wedding felt more like a joyful dinner party than a grand production. There was dancing, oysters, speeches, and smiles, and their adorable dog got to join them for it all. Instead of the usual hustle, this couple took their time. That sense of slowness and presence is exactly why we at Mossfloor adore film photography. There’s something nostalgic and grounding about it. It forces you to be in the moment. And it beautifully reflects detailed, personalized weddings like this one.
Let’s start with Sam’s dress: bold, beautiful, and bright red. She skipped the traditional white and it was stunning. Her look, much like the entire celebration, felt perfectly at home at the charming Tokeland Hotel. And then there was the meaningful decor. I would be remiss if I didn’t draw attention to the ceramic vases at the tables that Luke handmade. From the attire and decor to the cakes (there were multiple, and yes, they were all beautiful), this wedding was a celebration of the people and things that matter most.
Whether you’re planning a smaller-scale elopement (think 2-19 guests) or you’re looking to rent out the entire venue for your wedding, The Tokeland Hotel is an excellent choice. As you begin planning your day, here are a few quick tips from behind the lens to consider:
All in all, this venue is ideal for couples who want a wedding that feels relaxed, meaningful, and full of warmth. It’s proof you don’t need a massive guest list or over-the-top details to create something unforgettable!
